Summer School is a great summer comedy starring Mark Harmon as a gym teacher forced to teach remedial English during the summer. It co-stars Kirstie Alley and Courtney Thorne-Smith before Melrose Place or According to Jim. Best scene hands down is when the two horror flick-fans stage a Texas Chainsaw Massacre in the classroom.

1987’s Some Kind of Wonderful is hands-down my favorite teen romance written by John Hughes. I like Pretty in Pink, too - but this one is better. Funny thing is, it has the same premise. Working class kid wants to date a “rich” kid, ignoring the best friend who is in love with them. Wikipedia says that Hughes originally wanted Molly Ringwald to end up falling in love with Ducky, but changed the ending because of pressure from producers. Some Kind of Wonderful ends the way he wanted it to - with Eric Stoltz realizing his best friend, drummer Watts, played by Mary Stuart Masterson, is the girl for him. The rich girl role of Amanda Jones, played by Lea Thompson, was originally offered to Molly Ringwold, but she turned it down.

The Princess Bride is based on the novel by William Goldman - and it was voted number 50 on Bravo’s 100 Funniest Movies of All Time list. I know Mandy Patinkin has been on many television series, but to me he will always be Inigo Montoya. “My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

The Witches of Eastwick were Cher, Susan Sarandon, and Michelle Pfeiffer, and the target of their wrath is Jack Nicholson. What a great cast! I recently saw Hairspray, and it’s amazing that Michelle Pfeiffer doesn’t look much different than she did back in 1987 in Witches. And she can’t sing much better than she did in Grease 2 - but I guess if you act that well and look that gorgeous, that should be enough, right?

Ally Sheedy didn’t have much of a career after The Breakfast Club, did she? I do remember liking Maid to Order, though. Ally Sheedy plays a spoiled rich girl whose fairy godmother makes her work as a maid in order to learn some lessons. Her fairy godmother is played by Bevery D’Angelo, better known as Ellen Griswold in the Vacation films.
