This must be the week for 80s rock stars in the news. Nikki Sixx, bass guitarist for 80s band Motley Crue, is releasing his first solo album. “The Heroin Diaries” is due in August, and is named after his autobiography that is due in September. Each of the album’s 12 tracks shares a name with a chapter from the book. The first single is called “Life is Beautiful.”

Who didn’t just adore the Culture Club in the 1980s? Karma Karma Karma… yeah you know what I am talking about! Culture Club are an English popgroup, who achieved considerable global success in the 1980s. The band were fronted by gender-bending vocalist Boy George, the other band members being Mikey Craig on bass, Roy Hay on guitar and keyboard, and Jon Moss (formerly of The Damned, The Clash, London and Adam and the Ants) on drums.

If you’re a fan of 1980s pop trivia, check out these two quizzes:
http://www.inthe80s.com/lyricq3.shtml
This one is a lyrics quiz - 222 lines from 80s pop music songs. Can you name the song and artist or group? I didn’t do very well with this one. I can hear the songs in my head, but only pieces - and most of the time I don’t remember the artist.

I scored 10 out of 10 on this one - all about classic 1980s movies. How did you do?

Superman/Clark Kent learns that the United States and the Soviet Union may soon engage in nuclear war, threatening the survival of the planet.
Before taking action, he departs to the north pole to seek advice from the spirits of his Kryptonian ancestors at the fortress of solitude.
At a meeting of the United Nations, he tells the assembly that he is going to rid the Earth of all nuclear weapons. Over the next several days, Superman takes all the nuclear weapons, and gathers them into a gigantic net in orbit above the planet. When he has almost all the weapons, he closes the net and tosses it into the sun.
Everyone loved this Superman movie, the new one not so much.

1990 - the year I graduated from high school. Freedom! Except I wasn’t leaving home - only going to community college 15 miles away. But the illusion of freedom, anyway. And here are the songs that always bring me back to senior year:
1. Hold On, Wilson Phillips
2. It Must Have Been Love, Roxette
3. Nothing Compares 2 U, Sinead O’Connor
4. Poison, Bell Biv Devoe
5. Vogue, Madonna
