Oliver Stone wrote and directed this film, drawing on his experiences as an infantryman serving in Vietnam. Stone didn’t think the portrayal of the Vietnam War in John Wayne’s movie The Green Berets was realistic, and he wanted to make a film that showed what his experiences were like. Platoon stars Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe, Kevin Dillon, Tom Berenger, and Johnny Depp - and won the Oscar for Best Picture of 1986.
