Based on Alice Walker’s novel and directed by Steven Spielberg, The Color Purple is a heart-breaking drama. With an unknown named Whoopi Goldberg in the lead role, and a supporting cast that included Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover, The Color Purple was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, but didn’t win any.
