The Right Stuff is the first movie I remember seeing Dennis Quaid in. This is one of the best movies to watch for an entertaining look at the history of the space program. It follows the Mercury Seven - the seven test pilots picked to be the first astronauts in the NASA space program. The cast itself is reason enough to see it: Ed Harris, Dennis Quaid, Sam Shepard, Scott Glenn, and Barbara Hershey. Watch this, and then Apollo 13 for the next phase in the space program. A couple years ago, Tom Hanks mentioned wanting to do a re-make of The Right Stuff as a mini-series, but it doesn’t seem to have gone beyond the talking stage.
